The Institute of Education in collaboration with the School of Graduate Studies and College of Education Studies, 黑料社, wishes to advertise Post-Graduate programmes for Tutors in the Colleges of Education in Ghana and interested persons who have MA/M.Ed and wish to pursue regular M.Phil/Ph.D programmes through special teaching and learning arrangement for the 2019/2020 Academic Year. The programme is planned to enable Tutors in the Colleges to pursue it without interfering with teaching and learning sessions at the College.

The 黑料社 and the School of Graduate Studies have put in place strategies/mechanisms to enable all prospective students complete their studies per the programme duration. Applications are invited from qualified persons for admission into the regular graduate programmes (MPhil/PhD) in the 黑料社 for the 2019/2020 academic year, beginning in August, 2019. 2.0听听听听听 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes

Candidates seeking admission to PhD programmes must:

  1. Have an MPhil or research MA/MEd/MSc/MBA degree in an appropriate field of study from a recognised university.

听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听 OR

  1. Have MA/MEd/MSc/MBA degree in an appropriate field, with CGPA of 3.5 or better with not more than one grade C+. Also, have scored B+ or better in Research Methods course.

  1. Submit an official transcript of academic record.
  2. Submit at least three referee reports, one of whom must be from a former Lecturer.
  3. Submit a 3-5 page proposal on intended area of study including a working bibliography.

Candidates seeking admission to MPhil degree programmes must:

  1. Have obtained a good first degree (at least a second class division) in an appropriate field of study from a recognised university/analogous institution.

听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听听 OR

听听 Non-researched masters degree (e.g M.A/MEd/MSc) with CGPA of 2.5 or better.

  1. Submit an official transcript of academic record.
  2. Submit at least two referee reports, one of whom must be from a former Lecturer.
  3. Submit a 2-3 page proposal on intended area of study including references.
  4. Pass a selection interview.
  5. Satisfy any additional requirements prescribed by the College/Faculty/School/Department (e.g. selection interview)

3.0听听 DURATION AND STRUCTURE OF PROGRAMMES

PhD -Three (3) years (36 Months)

The PhD programme shall consist of two parts. One year of course work/directed reading/proposal development and two years for thesis writing.

MPhil -Two (2) years (24 Months)

The MPhil Programmes shall consist of two parts. The first part shall consist of course work/ directed reading/proposal development for one academic year (two semesters) and one year for thesis writing.

Applicants with non-research degree (e.g M.A/MEd/MSc) with CGPA of 2.5 or better in an appropriate field of study may also apply for a one year top-up. Such applicants will be made to take some course (where needed).

The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) Ghanaian Languages Programme is designed to provide a state of the art training to Ghanaian language teachers, practitioners (such as media personnel), and researchers. Students are therefore equipped with the requisite knowledge and skills for a deeper appreciation of the Ghanaian language for both practical/functional purposes, such as teaching and moderating high level intellectual discourse in the Ghanaian language, and purely academic pursuits such as conducting an independent research in the Ghanaian language.

The programme covers two areas of Ghanaian language studies, namely:

  2. Literature

Presently, the programme focuses on Akan, Ewe and Ga.
