The Vice-President of the Republic of Ghana, Mr. Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has launched the prestigious Diamond Club of the ºÚÁÏÉç at a grand ceremony at Labadi Beach Hotel.
The Diamond Club which is a strategic thrust of the University is aimed at recognising some key stakeholders by providing a platform for harnessing ideas and mobilising resources to help develop UCC. The Diamond Club, an initiative of the current Vice-Chancellor, Prof. D. D. Kuupole is made up of individuals in Business, Academia, Finance, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Tourism, Law and Politics who have a track record of tremendous achievements at the highest levels in their respective professions.
Speaking at the function, Mr. Amissah-Arthur noted that the challenges that confront the nation does not require only the support of Government but also the mobilisation of resources from different sources to develop human capital requirements. He pointed out that “It is the responsibility of Universities to graduate students who can match their counterparts from other parts of the world, and can also apply their knowledge to solve pressing needs of our societies. He therefore expressed the belief that the ºÚÁÏÉçDiamond Club will live up to the challenge by positioning the University for growth, development and excellence.
The Vice-President stated that for the youth to compete effectively in today's globalised economy, there was the need to develop new ways of training them. He indicated that today's graduates should not only be adequately trained in their chosen fields of study, but they must be equipped with the knowledge, skills set and leadership qualities that are relevant to the constantly changing needs of the modern global economy.
Delivering an address at the function, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. D. D. Kuupole, said the ºÚÁÏÉçdetermination to create presence among her publics and the global community and to keep its promise as the University of Competitive Choice in Ghana and beyond consider it crucial to constantly seek alternative ways to respond to changing needs. He indicated that the rapid expansion in the constituent units of the University with its resultant drain on scarce resources needed to be addressed by finding creative solutions. He further said that ºÚÁÏÉçin conformity with its Corporate Strategic thrust of aggressively developing linkages with local and foreign institutions and partnership with industry, has over the years, established key partnerships with various institutions, corporate bodies as well as individuals to pursue development in areas that have prospects of strategic academic and economic interest to both parties.
Prof. Kuupole pointed out that ºÚÁÏÉçconsider the formation of the Diamond Club as strategic thrust aimed at giving recognition to the most supportive stakeholders and providing a platform for harnessing ideas and mobilising resources to help develop the ºÚÁÏÉç.
Later, pioneer members of the ºÚÁÏÉçDiamond Club were inducted at the function.
